Server Consolidation – Logical Partitioning (LPAR).The capability to divide a single physical system into multiple logical or "virtual" systems, each sharing a portion of the server's hardware resources (such as processors, memory and I/O), provides a unique opportunity for server consolidation. Each logical partition (LPAR) can even run an independent copy of an operating system. They can even be different operating system versions or distributions including AIX 5L™ V5.2, AIX 5L V5.3, Red Hat Linux®, Novell SUSE Linux. This allows you to consolidate your older individual servers and reduce software costs, maintenance costs, power consumptions, floor space, and total cost of ownership.
